The Dirty Dozen
The long awaited beauty and warmth of summer is finally here. For those of you with gardens, your delicious produce is ripe for the picking. Summer has so many wonderful fresh alkaline fruits and vegetables to offer. Try eating a variety of these fruits, vegetables and greens while they are the most delicious, nutritious and "in season".
Ideally it would be nice if we could all have organic gardens and grow our own chemical free food. Chemicals not only make our food more acidic, but also less nutritious. Unfortunately, for many people, due to space limitations, that may not be a feasible option. However, farmers's markets are popular in the summer months. You can get fresh organic, produce at reasonable prices. Many towns also have community gardens where you can grow and share delicious herbs, flowers, fruits and vegetables. Last but not least, there is always the organic section of your supermarket. This is not my favorite option as the food is definitely not as fresh and is often more expensive. With a tough economy in America, eating organic may not even be an option for many people.
