Arming Yourself Against Colds and Flu

This time of year, you have probably been noticing more people sneezing, coughing and sniffing.  Colds and flu are the main cause of missed work and it is also the main cause of doctor visits in the United States.  Many people run to the doctor in hopes of getting an antibiotic to rid themselves of the symptoms because they believe that colds and flu are causes by bacteria.  This is not true.  They are caused by viruses and antibiotics will not work for viruses hence they are an inappropriate course of treatments for many reasons.  Because viruses are seemingly rampant this time of year (mainly because of our suppressed immunity due to lack of sunlight, temperature changes, more time spent indoors, etc.) your best course of course of action is to avoid getting sick in the first place.   Having a strong immune system can only truly do this.   A strong immune system can prevent the virus from taking over and you getting sick.   Read more...

It's National Pizza Month

October is National Pizza Month!  Who doesn't like pizza?  It's definitely one of my favorite foods. When most people think of pizza they think of a high calorie, fattening, meat and cheese feast. Eating pizza can certainly be fattening, highly acidic and processed if you choose the unhealthiest options, however it doesn't have to be that way.
