Posted by Cassandra Stirling

Nature has provided us will wonderful essential oils that were the beauty secret of many woman throughout the centuries. Today, sadly most beauty products are being made with cheaper, synthetic oils and ingredients that are often doing more harm than good to our hair, skin and nails. It is time to get back to basics. All of our your skin solutions are found in nature.  Take a look at these 7 natural oils that you should be incorporating into your skin care regime.

1. Coconut oil is a versatile and inexpensive oil that easily absorbs into the skin, making it an excellent non-greasy moisturizer. Use it right after coming out of the shower, while your skin is still a little damp. Coconut oil can also help with skin problems like psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin conditions.  It is also an excellent scalp moisturizer and it adds some protection from the harmful UV rays of the Sun.

2. Sweet almond oil contains vitamins like E, A and B complex which not only moisturize your skin but also protect against any visible signs of aging.  It nourishes and revives the skin without clogging pores. Almond oil is frequently used to treat dry skin.  As a dry skin treatment, almond oil relieves itchiness, soreness, rashes, dryness, irritation and burns.  Almond oil aides the skin in keeping the proper balance of moisture in the skin which is critical when treating it.  If you have an allergy to nuts, you should not use sweet almond oil or at the very least do a skin test first.

3. Grapeseed oil is a very light and non-greasy oil which makes it a favorite for many. Used regularly, grapeseed oil can reduce the visibility of stretch marks and can help the skin around your eyes look younger and less likely to sag.  Being non-comedogenic, it can be used with acne products to help moisturize the skin and make it feel more supple.  Grapeseed oil can also be used to condition the hair and scalp.

4. Argan oil comes from kernel nuts and is a very beneficial oil that has made its way into many good facial and hair products.  It restores the skin’s hydro lipid layer and prevents the appearance of wrinkles on the skin. The oil also has healing properties in that it promotes scar healing and can also be used as a disinfectant and sun screen.  It contains as much as 80% essential unsaturated fats, carotenoids, ferulic acid, polyphenols, prostaglandins, protein, sterols, and an abundance of vitamin E all which benefit your skin and fight against the aging process.

5. Olive oil is a wonderful and cheap natural oil that is great for your skin, hair and nails.  The high percentage of unsaturated fat and vitamins A and E are helpful in preventing sun damage. Due to the fact that it’s fat composition is very similar to that of human skin, it rarely causes allergic reactions.  Apply to your hair as a 30 minute treatment then shampoo, apply to your skin in the bath or shower or simply moisturize your body with it anytime. Learn from your history and the Romans who used Olive oil as a skin cleaner and moisturizer.

6. Jojoba oil is a another great inexpensive and natural moisturizer. Jojoba Oil penetrates into the skin without clogging pores hence it is a vital component of many beauty products.  It is suitable for all skin types and it contains vitamin E and antioxidants which are great for fighting aging signs and for moisturizing the skin. In addition, it is also antibacterial which makes it great for treating acne breakouts.  Use it on your hair to prevent scalp dryness, soreness and itchiness.

7.  Macadamia nut oil is not only edible but it is works on the outside too.  It contains higher levels of palmitoleic acid than any other plant oil. Palmitoleic acid is naturally found in human sebum, the body’s natural skin oil which decreases as we age so Macadamia oil is great for anti-aging. It is also naturally high in vitamin A and vitamin E, making it a wonderful healing oil. It treats sunburns, scars, and other skin irritations.  However, Macadamia oil cannot be used by those who are allergic to nuts. Therefore, it is advisable to perform a pre-test procedure prior to the application of the oil.

Water affects the Waistline

Posted by Cassandra Stirling

Water is crucial in the battle of the bulge.  No weight loss plan is successful if you are not hydrated. Studies on hydration have shown that as little as 2% dehydration impairs athletic performance.  Water also suppresses the appetite.  Often when you feel hungry, it’s really that you are thirsty.  Water also helps the body metabolize fat but only if you drink enough.  Water helps flush toxins out of your body and keeps things moving throughout your digestive tract allowing the bowel to move regularly.  Water is basically necessary for all bodily functions, which is why more than half of the human body is made up of this vital fluid.
